What to eat to maintain the inner cool

The mercury levels on the scales seem to be rising daily- the heat has been draining out the souls in all of us. The unbearable heat has taken a toll on our bodies and dehydration can be a major concern.

Here’s a list of cooling foods and beverages to help you cope

Curd and Yoghurt

They are excellent cooling agents and can be consumed plain or if you feel like jazzing them up then they are excellent bases for lassis, buttermilk as well as dips. Yoghurts can be an excellent dessert during these heaty days, topped up with fruits, nuts or even curd with treacle is a great choice.

Good old thambili

The cheaper alternative to many energy drinks - this natural isotonic is a great way to keep yourself hydrated. Thambili contains some vital minerals that can be lost due to excessive sweating from the body. So this is a great way to replace it.


Watermelon is a great fruit to consume during the months when the sun is scorching away. Melons are full of antioxidants which are great for the skin as well as to keep your body cool during these difficult months.

Cool as a cucumber

Cucumbers are great to fight the sunny days. The fibre rich fruit is great to beat constipation too. It can also add a crunch and a punch to the salads as well as juices.

Citrus fruits

Fruits such as grapes, oranges, apples, pears, berries, watermelons, star fruit and dragon fruit are great for staying cool during the burning months. They have high fibre contents and are packed with antioxidants and contain most essential nutrients.

Make veggies your best friend

There are multiple veggies that are great to keep body temperature at bay. Having a veggie rich diet such as substituting heavy-carb rich meals for salads is a great way to feel less lethargic during the hot months. Radishes, cucumber, leafy greens such as spinach, lettuce and fresh herbs such as mint are great.
